I have been an educator for over twenty years. Teaching children with disabilities, I have always kept their future success at the front of my mind. I am so excited to now be working with adults with disabilities to help them meet their career goals.
My journey with autism started just over 20 years ago. I walked into my first classroom of students with autism and fell in love instantly. Then, I entered the world of ABA. I was a para-educator and an ABA therapist for 10 years. Learning the ins and outs of teaching and understanding how to shape behavior. I learned so much about autism throughout my ABA career. Finally, the opportunity came for me to become a teacher for a newly designed autism program at a large district in California. Of course, I took it. This is where ABA and the classroom came together. It was an amazing ten year journey in which I met so many people willing to work with, teach, and learn from kids with autism. We touched so many lives and made school enjoyable for so many kids! I will never forget those years. My journey continues here in Texas with another eleven years of teaching in special education and touching the lives of many students with special needs. I have three wonderful children of my own who keep me very busy. I am very excited to be able to help individuals with special needs be successful in the work world!
I have been in elementary special education for 5 years. This next year I am starting a new adventure in high school special education. Helping my students be successful not only in academics, but also with life skills, has always been very important to me. I apply these skills to help adults with disabilities be successful in finding their careers and living a fulfilling life.
Seven years ago, I started as a special education paraprofessional at an elementary school and loved it! I immediately wanted to become a certified special education teacher but that took some time. Four years later, I got certified as a special education teacher, and was hired at Ronald Reagan High School as a special education teacher. This is when I really started to think about not only what my students' lives would look like after high school, but also what my special needs daughter's life was going to look like after school as well. What services would be offered after high school? What would my students' lives and my daughter's life look like as adults? My twin daughters are the reason I found my passion in life. I am excited to be working with adults with disabilities and supporting them to become successful and confident in the workplace and in life!
